Noo-be needs critique for Bug-out readiness

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum but not to the subject matter.I have a bug out plan that I have done my best to invest in with little resources. I have broken down my plan by basically analizing what my situation would be in degrees of travel and fuel. How I would survive if I was not able to leave the house or could only travel within a mile radius, 3miles, 5-10-15 miles....and degrees of fuel avaliability. How and what would I need if no vehicle were avaliable. How would I get around and get and carry supplies. Outside of a bike I'm not sure yet....maybe those who read this can see the holes in my plan and make suggestions.

My supplies are for myself but I know my Mother has no supplies and I'm working to help my brother get in the mind set and get supplies...so far he has finally bought some food stores and the Big berkey with a pack of replacement filters and some PM's. He lives 15 minutes from me and we have a plan for him to bug-out and stay with his girlfriend at her country home/with food stores/water well and within a mile from her Mom,Dad, brother and wife...both families have food stores with clean ponds which are stocked. They can use his Big Berkey for the pond water if needed. They can hunt for food out there and have gradens.

My Mom and I would stick together and we have a plan to stay on my aunts farm if we can get there (if not than we can stay in my place)....my uncles grandmothers house is vacant since her dealth two years ago and my aunt and uncle live two miles down the road. There farm is non GMO grain and organic beef cattle with generators, deepwater well, food stock and garden. They have an arsenal of hunting supplies and since I've known how to handle a gun since I was little (God bless my vietnam vet father who has passed)I need not worry about protection/hunting and wether I can use a gun if needed..... I can and will with no problem. The community of farmers out there is pretty tight. They are a very independent bunch who hunt/fish and rely on themselves as much as possible and in my eyes live as if we are already in bug out mode compared to many. I just know that the little town I live in is in a fog for the most part and would look to the government to take care of them...like most.

I have been training myself to live on 11,000 a year for the last two years and with that have really simplified my life and feel quite liberated and psychologically prepared for the worst...and yet not enveloped by it. It's funny though that when I visit my friends and family I always ask them 'where they are' in context to supplies etc. Not many worry too much about it and so I note who would be coming my way needing supplies when the time comes.
* Have survival books out the yin/yang along with auto repair/alternative fuels/living off the grid manuals on many subjects....from what to do in any situation worst case senerio etc...i have not studies them as much as I should but have them as reference at least until I get around to investing the time.
*I have food stores for 12 months
*Big Berkey and replacement filters
*Supplements for a year
*Powder supplement shakes for meal replacement for a year/just add water
*5- 55gal food grade containers/ 5- 30 gal/ for fuel or water
*generater
*Gieger counter/pottasium Iodade (sp) for my whole family and many friends
*5- 15 gal fuel containers
*hand water pump
*extra fridge/freezer for extra stock if needed
*Colloidal silver machine that makes a galllon in 15-20 minutes @ 10-15 ppm is what I make iton the average.I also have 2 packages of replacement rods which each can make about 160 gallons each.
*Hand crank portable clothes washer/1.5 year supply of soap
* homeopathics for anthrax/small pox/chem trails/bariumand alluminum and heavy metals/radiation/ along with a general kit with Materia Medica for all other illnesses...plus a connection to a Dr who can make special homeopathics as needed.
*6 months supply of toiletries
* year supplies for my animals

I analized what skills I and family and friends have to offer. I was raised by my grandfather after my father passed( WW11 Pearl Harbor vet who has passed) who taught me self reliance and a do it your self mind set and to be a self relient woman. Because of that I have more skills than the average female. Welding, light carpentry, light auto, gardening, farming, hunting, cooking,I can drive anything with wheels, fishing, wild food gathering, survival skills, self defense, first aid,CPR, naturopathy, homeopathy, herbology, nutrician, wine making, carpet/tile laying and I could think of more if I had time but it's not important to state them all...just making a point.

The day that changed my whole life.
I was living in Phoenix AZ for two years from 91-93 and wanted to move home to live close to my family. I didn't prepare for the worst as I was tought by my grandfather and left with all my possessions in my car and was on my way. My car kept breaking down and the delays and repairs were eating all my money. I made it up to Flagstaff AZ and was broke except for $20. I felt defeated but knew I could call my family :-) I was embarrased to call but felt I had no choice. I dialed my grandfather and told him my woes. He paused a while...sighed....and said " my girl.....your smart, resourceful young and healthy......I love you very much and have taught you you can do anything you set your mind too....and know you will figure this out.....I have no doubt that you can.......again I love you and know your smart.......now go to it girl!......click!!! OMG I was shocked......than I was hurt....than I was mad.....than I was PISSED!!!........than I was enlightened! He was right and I could do anything and I did. I figured it out and made my way. The best lesson and I am enternally grateful for his hard line teachings. I will never be defeated by my own mental limitations. I have battled cancer and won....I have battled an auto immune disorder which I was told is incurable and will be sick for life....bullshit...no such thing. I am healthy and take no med's ever.....this is all due to my grandfather who, God bless me, helped me see myself and my God given well of strength and resources. Humans will tell you to fear, to feel we don't have enough and try to instill a sense of lack and worry, destabalize your spiritual, physical, mental, emotional, intellectual capabilities and strength........I find it all to be noise. To be prepared is to than let go and know I have done my best to be 'my grandfather's granddaughter'......I am a good woman and a patriot.....in honor of my grandfather and father and all Vet's.....

This started as a post that was just about bug-out preparedness and asking the forum for suggestions that I have missed....and like all things.....it always comes down to the human condition, life basics and what is really important for each individual.....life...liberty...and the pursuit of happiness:ARMS1:
Blessings all...and thanks for reading my post and adding any comments, suggestions and critiques.

Sounds like your in better shape than me heh. If you plan on going to the farm you might consider leaving a lot of your supplies at the farm. That way all you have to worry about is getting there and not bringing supplies. If you had to then you could even walk since your don't have a ton of stuff to carry.

You are better prepared than most who think they are prepared.
i think you have it all figured out very well, and the only thing you need to kind of finalize is the transportation method for you and your mother from where ever you are both at when TSHTF,to where you plan to link up.
The bicycles/mountain bike method seems best for last resort,as long as your mom can ride one.

I don't know what type of vehicle you own, but if it's not a used diesel, considering 'trading down'. Nothing fancy and NOTHING newer than about 1972 - 1974, which is when minor computer controls started appearing in vehicles. An older Mercedes four door diesel would be a good choice. Or an MB wagon.

In a shtf scenario, it WILL run if you plan ahead. Fuel will be a little more available and you can use WVO/SVO (Waste/straight vegetable oil) if the weather is not freezing cold at the time. If it is, you will have to be 'prepared' for that.

Which for you seems to be a high possibility.

Past that, be aware of your surroundings at all times (condition yellow) and be prepared to 'leap' before the real events unfold. If you show up in the middle of the night sometime at your relatives house, just tell them you had 'a feeling' that they needed you to visit them. I doubt they will question that. Hang out for a day or two and then if nothing happens go back home. PLUS it's a great idea to TEST your bug out plans BEFORE they become necessary to implement.

One of the biggest failings of most companies AND people are they make all these plans but NEVER put them to the test. When the time comes and they find they have forgotten one or two key compenents in their plans, it's too late.

Good luck and a BIG WELCOME to the board. We all like to be prepared, but NONE OF US are completely prepared for EVERYTHING.

You seem well on your way....

Just a note on hunting critters, though....as I see this often in survival threads:

I believe hunting is way over figured in a true SHTF situation. I look at my little valley here.....probably 300 people live here......and my guess is maybe that many deer. So that's the first week or so supply of food....because at best, folks are gonna recover about 50% of the meat..........then what ?

I've read that during the last Depression, deer where so depopulated in this state, it took until the 60's and even then having to import deer for re-stocking, to get a decent population again.

Other than the occassional bonus meal, I really wouldn't base any long term plans on hunting unless you live in a VERY remote area with little human population.

Thats the same thing that comes to my mind when I read the hunting for food idea TN.

I do live 30 miles from pavement in central Idaho. I am 4th generation in this county. The elk population ( less plentiful since the wolf reintroduction) had to be reintroduced in the 50's after being eliminated during the great depression. They came from Yellowstone.

In a shtf food crisis.....................

The average "hunter" would only stand a chance with normal populations of big game.

The plan is to have a gun and hope to add to the stew.

But don't plan on it.

Which of course brings up the question do you defend the wild life on your land ?

Sticky wicket

Hello and thanks for the comments and added suggestions :cheerful:

About travel...I had been shopping for a very late model VW diesel and have been watching the auto trader etc. I do have a verbal ok from the local greasy spoon to unload his waste oil when I get the car. Have been researching the veggie oil concept. Not easy to find a cheap diesel around here due to some getting wise and the prices going to the roof for them.... even the late models. I will buy one regardless since it will be a needed purchase.

About hunting... I would hunt if needed but for the time being my aunt and uncle have the cattle and we'll do the best we can to utilize them in the worste case senerio. The land out there on the farm has quite a healthy population of wild life for now. But yet it could get over hunted fast to be sure.

The idea about storing some of the supplies at the farm is smart....thanks..... since I would plan to stay there in bad times. I'd have to be sure I had a good portion of all food/water/generator/ medical supplies etc here in case of a lock down situation and I couldn't leave.

Thinking about getting a few small solar units and a storage cell but have to wait till the funds are here.... have been taking extra cash and buying PM's periodically. Have invested quite a bit on this emergency plan but yet not buying on credit...cash as I go.

The suggestion about practicing the bug-out and making sure my Mom, brother and aunt's family are all on the same page is good....will not wait....how to communicate if the phones are down is a concern....to be able to communicate to each other is my next project.....

starting to research HAM radio's......any suggestions?

thanks again :-)

You are aware because of the newer engine that a late model VW will only run on 5% bio-diesel tops, right?

Goddess,

Hi:-)

About the older V-dubs...yes I am aware of the limitations thanks :-). The modifications for veggie diesel have good marks so far. Plus there is an additive to veggie oil that I'm researching that claims no modifications needed for any diesel model. I'll get the link and post it. It has been used in Germany for years and has good marks too. I used to sell the v-dubs when the new models came out and do prefer to drive the newer models but yet in a crisis the older versions are easier to fix and are not as relient on the eletrical ( no computer componants either) system.Plus replacement parts would be easier to come by in junk yards etc.

Driving the wheels off an 91 Saturn 5 SD/4 cyl and a 91 Mazda Navajo(2dr Ford explorer) 4x4 6 cyl/5 SD

Thanks for the comments :-)
